According to the clinical psychologist Kelly Glazer Baron from Rush University, “More research is done in last decades that shows exercise can reduce insomnia. In one of the study, I found that an older woman suffering from insomnia said their sleep improved from poor to good when they exercised. They had more energy and were less depressed.”

Christopher Kline who studied sleep through the lens of sports medicine said most of the studies done recently revealed that people clinically diagnosed with insomnia disorder. The results of the study say that exercise is the best way to improve the quality of sleep. People suffering from insomnia usually take sleeping pills that are extremely hazardous to our health. They are as dangerous as smoking a packet of cigarettes in a day. Arizona sleep researcher from Arizona State University Shawn Youngstedt said, “Not to mention sleeping pills are the major cause of infections, falling and dementia in the elderly, and they lose their effectiveness after a few weeks.”

Doing exercise is less expensive, healthier and have a lower risk of developing insomnia in the first place. Most of the Americans also face sleep apnea, a dangerous disorder that stops your breath temporarily for a minute during night time. Exercise can also help in curing this kind of disorder. Sleep apnea generally happens with the people who are overweight or obese. Kline conducted a study where he observed that participants who didn’t diet have reduced the rate of sleep apnea by 25% alone with the help of exercise.

Disturbed sleep could lead to various disorders. Restless leg syndrome, nervous system disorder occurs when there is a burning sensation in the body parts like arms or face. Disturbed or improper sleep is a key risk factor for diseases like stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. People who exercise daily have deep sleep and decreased the number of awakenings. Along with this, people also feel less depressed and their mood becomes better.
