Daddy uttered these words more frequently if they have little daughters

Daddy uttered these words more frequently if they have little daughtersThere is a huge difference between thoughts of a father towards his daughter and son. The way they speak, the language they use and the play they engage in is quite different for both girls and boys. A new study laid down by the researchers from the lab of Emory University shows the detailed study about brain scans of fathers with behavioral data collected as when the fathers interacted with their children in a real-world setting.

Fathers not only give more attention to their daughters but also use words associated with sad emotions such as “Cry”, “Tears” and “Lonely.” Father speak in rough volume with their sons and makes use of more power and achievement related language such as “best”, “win”, “super” and “top” while on the other hand while speaking with their daughters they make use of systematic language such as “all”, “below” and “much.”

One of the researchers, Jennifer Mascaro who laid the study said, “When a child was heavily crying for dad, fathers of daughters responded to that more than did fathers of sons.” “Unconscious notions of gender can play a major role in the way we treat even very young children”, said James Rilling, senior author of the study.

In this study, researchers have focused more on fathers rather than mothers because there is very less research conducted about their roles in rearing young children. “Our study provides one of the richest datasets for fathers since it combines real-world assessments of behavior with responses of the brain”, Mascaro further added.

52 fathers of tots (30 girls and 22 boys) participated in the study from the area of Atlanta. All of them agreed to clip a small PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with the EAR software onto their belts and were asked to wear it for one weekday or one weekend day. They were told to keep their devices in their children’s room at night so that it could be helpful to record the interactions between them and their children at the night time. The device arbitrarily turned on for 50 seconds after every nine minutes to record any ambient sound during the period of 48 hours.

The study concluded that people who wore the device acted surprisingly normal. This new EAR technology is a naturalistic observation method that could help in finding the things about the behavior of a father that was revealed in a previous study conducted. “It uncovered understated favoritisms that we didn’t essentially hypothesize in advance.”
